It may have appeared to be an ordinary sunny day in California to most people, but on April 22nd, Young at Heart got together generous students from the Boys & Girls Club in Hollywood, with a group of seniors from Raya’s Paradise in West Hollywood to

commemorate Earth Day! The group of seniors and students spent the afternoon in the gorgeous back patio of Raya’s Paradise where events included: games, sharing Shel Silverstein’s, “The Giving Tree”, crafts, snacks and a lot of laughter. Inter-generational programming may sound fancy(or overwhelming), but it is merely an exchange between generations. Most people don’t truly understand the impact of inter-generational programming, until you witness it first-hand. There is no smile more genuine than that induced by a child. Fostering these opportunities is essential, not only for health reasons, but for the betterment of the world we live in. Looking back on Earth Day made me realize that our celebration wasn’t just about the trees and precious resources the earth affords us, but about improving the environment we live in.

Young at Heart thanks you! This magical afternoon would not have touched the lives of the students and seniors without the hard work and dedication of the staff involved. A huge thank-you to the staff of the Boys & Girls Club, especially Aide Aguirre, who’s passion for the project made it possible, and innovative minds like Jeromy Meyer and Julie Hansen, from Raya’s Paradise, who made the day special and everyone feel welcome in their home.
